No other industry of note has had to confront issues of social justice head on as the cannabis industry has. The very origins of our industry are inextricably tied to the social injustices perpetrated by the War on Drugs against communities of color.
While social equity initiatives are well-intentioned, they have often been mired in controversy. But we cannot throw the baby out with the bath water so to speak. The legalization of cannabis is a marathon, not a sprint. In order for social justice initiatives to work in our industry, we must fully commit to the idea even if the implementation is messy at times.
